A magical creation, sweetened condensed milk that is made at home can be done in the comforts of your own kitchen. Just two things are needed – sugar and milk. But these few elements will yield a deep amber syrup like velvet which nothing else can imitate. This DIY version also allows for a bit of tweaking when it comes to sweetness or thickness so that they’re just right for you.
Another thing about the product is that it lacks any additional flavors or preservatives which could compromise its freshness unlike commercialized products Besides being regarded as a therapeutic art form, homemade cooking involves letting a mixture slowly boil down into thick creaminess from simmering sweetened milk over low heat until some of the liquid evaporates and turns to steam thus increasing the concentration and causing browning reactions that make the house smell nice and signify great tastes ahead Whether you are making fudge brownies or apple pies or ice creams among others, these kinds of treats give them an old-fashioned touch and depth that cannot be achieved when bought from shops It is quite satisfyingly amazing to create your own batch of condensed milk with sugar added at different stages along the process because there are always hidden surprises waiting for us!
Ingredients:
Four cups of whole milk
One cup of sugar
Method:
Combine the full cream milk and granulated sugar in a saucepan.
Stir frequently as you cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
Then, reduce the heat to low so that it can simmer gently. Stir occasionally to avoid scorching at the bottom of the pot.
Boil for about one or one and half hours until thickened and reduced by half; should resemble store-bought sweetened condensed milk – creamy and syrupy.
Remove from heat; allow cooling down until reaching room temperature.
Once cooled down entirely, transfer into a clean airtight container (preferably glass jar) and refrigerate.
You can use this homemade sweetened condensed milk for any recipe requiring it or even put some in your coffee/tea instead of regular sugar.
