Cheese fries made from boiled potatoes offer a delightful twist on the classic comfort food, giving this cherished dish added taste and consistency. To start, choose potatoes to boil such as russet or Yukon gold that have a light texture, which works well with the cheese. After boiling until they are tender, let them cool for a while before slicing into French fries or wedges so that they don’t disintegrate when you fry them.
When the potatoes are ready, it is time to fry them until golden perfection. In a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot, heat oil to suitable frying temperature. With caution add boiled potato sticks to hot oil in batches that will prevent overcrowding and also ensure even cooking. Have your french fries cooked until their color turns crispy-golden brown then remove them from oil and drain them on paper towels for excess fat removal.
This is the fun part – adding the cheese! For instance, rather than melted cheese sauce which is typical with traditional cheese fries, these homemade ones have shredded cheese spread over hot fries. Spread a good amount of grated cheese on top of these hot chips and then watch it melt into a sticky creamy layer that wraps around each fried slice.
Lastly, garnish your boiled potato based cheese fries with your favourite toppings to incorporate more taste and make them crispy. These can be crispy bacon pieces and chopped green onions, or sour cream and pickled jalapenos. Homemade cheese fries should be served while still hot right after preparing them so that people can enjoy the combination of crispness filled in their mouths with gooeyness that leaks from the teeth as well as flavourful garnishes.
